Minnetrista blends lake access on Halsted Bay with acreage, hobby farms, and newer neighborhoods off County Road 110 and Highway 7.
Mature windbreaks and wooded lots surround many homes, and open fields mean wind carries seeds, cottonwood fluff, and leaves straight onto roofs.
Cottonwood and maple seeds can clog gutters as early as June, and fall leaf drop follows from the oaks and maples.
Freeze-thaw winters make clogs worse, because water trapped in the gutters backs up under shingles, feeds ice dams, and dumps runoff against the foundation.
Most Minnetrista homeowners clean twice a year, in late spring and late fall, and homes beside wooded areas or wetlands often add a third.
Clear gutters and downspouts also help keep debris out of storm drains that lead to local lakes and wetlands.
